Nonverbal communication is the act of sending and receiving messages without using words. It gives us insights about how a person receives information, it also helps us relate better and establish meaningful interactions.

Types of nonverbal communication are: – facial display, eye behaviour, movement and gesture, vocal behaviour etc.

Though nonverbal signals differ in people, it does give us clues about the emotions of a person. To get valuable information from a speaker, his/her nonverbal communication is synchronised with his/her verbal signals at the time of speaking.

Below are specific things one can do to improve his/her communication skills.
- If you have a lot to say call the person instead of texting.
- Practice active listening
- Be brief and clear.
- Keep a good posture
- Make eye contact with the person you are talking with
- Take notes while discussing to ensure nothing is forgotten
- Prepare and think about what you want to say.
A good listener makes a good communicator. Excellent communication skill is needful to build lasting personal/business relationships.
